April 2016 - The Ridge Golf Club

What brilliant hot and sunny weather we had today at The Ridge. The food was good, but the course was let down, in my opinion, by the greens and the bunkers! But then again, as Dave reminded us, we all had to play under the same conditions!

Well done to Tony Middleditch for winning the A Division with 38 points, and well done to Mick Tingley for winning the B Division with 38 points as well - excellent scores guys!

Dave and Bert drew the knockout and you will find the draw on the knockout tab of this site! All games to be played before or on the next meeting at Poult Wood on 10 May!

Finally a reminder to tell Dave (the Secretary) in advance if you are not going to be at the next meeting as we are often charged for no-shows. Members will be charged for no-shows where appropriate.

March 2016 - Birchwood Park

Dave Reid reported that you all had a good day at Birchwood, it's the first time this year that he has played and not got muddy. The results were as follows:- 

A division - The Northumberland cup won by Robbie Burns with a net 71. Cliff Riley was 2nd with a net 72. Robbie also won the Champion of Champions trophy with 38 Points.

B division - The Ann Clyst Cup won by Lubo Matis with a net 71. Phil Swaine also scored a net 71 but lost on count back. 

A new member joined on Tuesday, Darren O'Donnell is now enlisted and played his first game with us. His handicap is 22.

Dave has also reported that he has been unable to locate the 'Matchstick Man' trophy. Geoff Bean returned it to Bert but since then it has disappeared. If anyone knows the trophy's whereabouts please contact Dave.

As there are 33 members in the Society Dave completed the first preliminary draw for the Cressy knockout in order to get the number down to 32. 

John Kitchingham was first out and will play Joolz Hembrough. This game should be played prior to, or at, the next meeting at The Ridge.

A Great Day at Crayford Dogs

We had a great evening at Crayford Dogs last Saturday, with a special race named in Bert's honour. As well as presenting the prize to the winning dog Bert also received a bottle of Champagne, and to top it all he won on his bets as well!

Our thanks go to Bert for all the hard work he has put in as Secretary of the Society

Hi guys (and girls)

A list of venues for the coming year is now available on the website - see the 2016 Venues tab.

I was asked at the AGM, held two weeks ago, to highlight the following items of note that were discussed at the meeting:-

• Society Chairman - Nick Isom has stepped down from the role of Chairman, due to other commitments, and Bert Styles agreed to take over the role with immediate effect. 

• Society Captain - Best wishes to Derek Howe who is Captain this year.

• Slow Play - The AGM discussed the increasing incidents of slow play. All members of the society are reminded that it is the responsibility of each group to keep up with the group in front, and not just to keep in front of the group behind.  If a group falls more than one clear hole behind the group in front of them, they must call the group behind through. All agreed at the AGM that it is unacceptable to fall 2 or 3 holes behind the group in front.

• No shows - Please remember that if you have said you are coming to a society golf day, and then can’t make it, you must tell Dave (the Secretary) at least 7 days before the event.  Many clubs are now charging for ‘no shows’.  If you don’t give Dave enough notice, you will be responsible for any charge that the Society has to pay as a result.

• Society Subs & monthly meeting format- It was agreed that the subs for the coming year would remain at £25 per member, and the current alternating monthly 'Stableford' and 'Stroke Play' format would continue for the coming year.
